Vicki's famous rolls

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 packages of dry yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  1. In a saucepan, mix the shortening, sugar and milk. Heat until scalded and let cool
  2. Sift flour with the salt in a large bowl
  3. Add the egg to the yeast+water mixture
  4. Mix all ingredients together in the bowl
  5. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for 1h
  6. Turn dough over in the bowl
  7. Let rise another hour
  8. Separate dough into rolls, crescents, whatever
  9. Let rise again for 1h
  10. Bake at 400F until brown
